This is a picture of the in-breaking of the Kingdom of God.

Not through yelling
Not through eye-rolling
Not through arguing

But through the one-on-one, peacemaking path of making disciples of Jesus Christ.

When I met Carolyn for the first time (on the right), every minute of every day I thought a wife is what I needed.

When I met Kat for the first time (on the left), she was planning on marrying her girlfriend and was considering transitioning to male.

Carolyn walked with me…

Kat is walking others…

We are not teaching how to be straight (what a boring goal). We are teaching how to love God, to love others, and to submit all of our brokenness (which includes—but is not limited to—our sexuality and gender) to God.

God is quietly but forcefully advancing His kingdom through discipleship.

Today we are talking about how to find treasures in the midst of suffering. One of those treasures may be a friend who knows how to be present to our pain. (Isn’t it a rare gift?!)

Author, advocate, and stroke survivor, Katherine Wolf, has firsthand experience with both suffering and friends who know how to be present in it. Together, we talk about how she learned to invite friends into her pain (she started a “suffering club”!!) as well as:

—What exactly are “treasures” that we can find in suffering, anyway?
—What if we are in a major depressive season? Is there hope for us?
—What if we don’t think our struggles are worth even naming as “suffering”?
—What steps can we take in the midst of a hard season to find hope?
